Last week the TOP-REF project took part in two different events related to energy efficiency in the industry sector. Both of them were held in Spain on October the 1st and the 2nd, by two project partners respectively, CIRCE and Dow Chemical Iberia.
On one hand, Top-REF was one of the projects presented during the “Resource Efficiency in the Chemical Industry” workshop, which was held in the city of Zaragoza. The event was organized by CIRCE in collaboration with the Spanish Technological Platform for Sustainable Chemistry (SusChem). Its main purpose was to debate the current situation of the Spanish chemical sector and options for advancing towards a more sustainable and competitive industry by driving improvements in resource efficiency. To this end, the day was structured into three sessions dedicated to “Process Efficiency”, “Industrial Symbiosis” and “Bioeconomics”. TOP-REF was presented by CIRCE during the “Process Efficiency” session, highlighting the developments achieved so far as well as its main contributions to the chemistry sector, in the three fields where the project is working at: chemical, agrochemical and petrochemical.
The day brought together professionals from the key companies, associations and R&D centres in the chemical industry and benefited from the participation of Lorenzo Vallés, Head of Unit in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation.
On the other hand, the project partner Dow Chemical Ibérica organized a technical meeting with CIRCE and the representative from the European Commission who had taken part in the workshop the day before. The event was held in Tarragona at DCI’s facilities. At the meeting, CIRCE and Dow Chemical Ibérica presented two European projects they are jointly working on, in the field of resource efficiency in industry: TOP-REF and DISIRE, both of them aligned with the goals of the industrial association SPIRE .
This way, researchers from both DCI and CIRCE were able to deepen into the main TOP-REF activities and explain, by means of a visit to the control and monitoring centre of DCI’s plant, the improvements that the project will make into the industrial process.
CIRCE has developed a model of the steam network of DCI which is to be matched with the Exergy analysis and the integration of the Exergy KRI. This way the model will improve the resource efficiency in the whole plant, which has been considered as “ very promising” by the DCI responsibles.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
