The 7th edition of the Life Cycle Management (LCM 2015) international conference took place in the city of
Bordeaux (France) between the 30th of August and the 2nd of September, gathering representatives of the industrial, academia and research sectors specialized in LCM.
In parallel with the conference, the MEASURE project, which is part of the SPIRE 2030 initiative as well as TOP-REF, organized the workshop “Environmental assessment in process industries: Cross sectorial standards and best practices” inviting the TOP-REF project to present its activities and results.
The workshop was mainly focus on LCA in case of cross-sectorial cooperation in industry and European SPIRE projects, and the chances of value creation based on Life Cycle Management.
This way, the project TOP-REF made a general presentation about its objectives, concepts and innovative aspects, focusing on the definition of the Key Resources Indicators that the project has already carried out.
The responsible of introducing to the audience this novelty developed by TOP-REF, was the project partner BIO by Deloitte. The presentation included the methodology followed, the first selection of KRIs, the comparison of indicators focusing on resource depletion and an overview of the exergy approach.
The lecture raised great interest among the attendants, who showed their concern about the use of LCA combined with other methods for environmental management, or the innovative exergy-based indicator, mainly on ERC (Exergy Replacement Cost).
To conclude the event, a conclusions debate was celebrated, which remarked the necessity of increasing the efforts on research in order to combine exergy analysis with LCA, or harmonizing the definition of indicators.
